Accessibility

Our commitment

We want every kid, parent and teacher to be able to use our website and enjoy the podcast. That includes people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, a zoomed-in screen or a small phone.

We aim for WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is a widely used set of web accessibility guidelines. It also covers what Section 508, the U.S. federal standard, requires. We’re still working toward it, and we keep testing and fixing as we go.

What we’ve done

We tested the site in October 2026 and fixed what we found. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Buttons and links have stronger color contrast, so they’re easier to read.

  • Links in our text are underlined.

  • Every page has clear regions, like the header, menu, main content and footer.

  • A “Skip to content” link lets keyboard users jump past the menu.

  • Form fields have labels, and screen readers announce errors and success messages.

  • Menus and “Read more” buttons work with a keyboard and tell screen readers when they’re open or closed.

  • Each page has one main heading, and the headings below it follow a logical order.

  • Images have helpful descriptions. Decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.

  • You can move through the whole site with a keyboard, and you can always see where you are.

  • Pages still work on screens as narrow as 320 pixels.

  • Nothing plays on its own.

  • Every episode has a transcript, linked right next to the player. Transcripts are also in our podcast RSS feed.

Known gaps

Some things aren’t finished yet. We’d rather tell you now.

  • Transcripts for older episodes don’t yet describe sounds or name each speaker. We’re adding these, starting with new episodes.

  • Our coloring pages are pictures made for printing, so a screen reader can’t describe them in detail. If you’d like help with one, just ask.

  • The podcast player comes from Buzzsprout, another company. We can’t change how it works.

Tell us about a problem

If something on our site is hard to use, please let us know. Email us at [email protected] or use our Contact form.

It helps if you include:

  • The page address (the link at the top of your browser)

  • What you were trying to do and what happened

  • The device, browser or assistive technology you were using, if you know

We try to reply within 3 to 5 business days.
